NAVYA SINGH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

2020 has given us all a lot of ups and down, whether that be rich class or poor class, minority or majority but how was it like for the Trans People in India? We read many stories and news of people suffering, dying and walking for miles in the pandemic but how often have we heard stories of the Trans People and they are dealing with the situation. When you are already refused for employment, refused for medical assistance, education as well as dignity, when your only source of income is via begging on streets or doing other means of illicit activities, how would you survive a pandemic with a strict lockdown?

This year has taught us a lot about life, it has given us the strength to not give up no matter what circumstances. Right in this country when we have positive examples like Naavya A. Singh, a self made trans woman who rose from the ashes like a phoenix and worked hard towards her dreams. With examples like her we can see some glimpse of hope and encouragement amongst the trans community who are either victims or survivors of life just for being trans.

Naavya A Singh celebrated her 2xth birthday with a big bang, to raise a glass for the new beginning. To get over all the social issues that we have in our society and just celebrate where she has come with all of us.

Coming from a very small town in Bihar at a very young age with big dreams in her little eyes, Naavya today stands proud and tall in front of the world. She turned the tables with her consistent efforts made towards her goal.
Her goal: To represent her community in the most right appropriate manner, to be visible in the mainstream so that it can light a hope amongst the young trans kids who are made to feel unloved and worthless. To set an example that if you are persistent about your passion, you can always achieve all the things you wish to, no matter where you come from or who you identify as.

Naavya is a supermodel, an actress, a TedX motivational speaker, an activist, a revolutionist and a hard working human. She is the Brand Ambassador, the face of Miss Trans Queen India that is one of its kind pageant curated particularly for trans girls in india. She has walked for many well accomplished designers such as Manish Malhotra, Namrata Joshi Pure, Akassh K. Aggarwal, Wendell Rodricks, Archana Kochhar at well known fashion weeks such as India Runway Week, Bombay Times Fashion Week etc as a model as well as a show stopper. She has appeared in many Television shows as a lead, like in ‘Savdhaan India’ and in ‘Shadi Ke Siyappe’ promo. You can also spot her in One+ mobile advertisement. Her accolades include two ‘Super Model of India’ awards and one ‘Newsmakers Achievers’ Award’ by the Media Federation. She has been working in the industry for the past 5+ years and she has contributed in the representation and visibility of Trans People on screen or in the fashion industry or glamour world to a huge extent. She herself has built her own space where she is today.

Although the improvement in better representation is still needed, there are still many mainstream shows being appreciated where there is either misinformation or mockery of trans people. With her grand birthday celebration, Naavya means to celebrate all her accomplishments on her birthday and strike a conversation about having more positive and valid roles of trans characters in the films or shows. The roles that are not subject to either jokes or crime scenes but the roles that can actually create an awareness among general, that can normalise trans lives in our society, that does not lead to more alienation of the community.
