My father Raj Patel is my guru. He is the chairman of our business. He has always encouraged me to try out new things. He taught me to be self-sufficient and never lose hope and work with focus. I am always open to new learnings and exploration. Constant guidance is needed by everyone. I can't think of life without his guidance. He always tells me it is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice.

It’s been a long journey and throughout this time I’ve met some amazing mentors. Guru brahma guru vishnu guru devo maheshwara guru sakshat parabrahma tasmai shri gurave namah. This was the first thing I learnt in my Bharatanatyam class. My parents are my first gurus. They always guided me and will continue to do so.

Vidya Patwardhan ma'am is my Guru. She brought me to the field of acting. When I was in school, Balmohan Vidyamandir, she was the one who introduced me to Mahesh Manjrekar sir for the film Tera Mera Saath Rahen. She produced my first daily show which was aired on Zee Marathi (formerly known as alfaTV). It was impossible for me to get into acting without her immense support. I can’t thank her enough. She taught me the basics of acting, dialogue delivery, expressions, reactions etc. She always used to say that “to be a good actor, try to be a good listener and observer first”. She made us understand the different styles of acting and forced us to come out of our comfort zone and try something which we find difficult to perform. She not only used to love and take care of us. Today, most of her students are really doing well in the industry. Whatever I am, whoever I am, whatever I have achieved, I owe it to her. I feel blessed that she made my life.

We celebrate Guru Purnima because I follow Gayatri mata. I took diksha also from Shanti kunj, Haridwar around 10 years back. Gayatri mantra changed my life. Around 10 years back I got Nandani from there so I believe in Gayatri mantra.

On this Guru Purnima I thank every teacher, every person who has ever taught me any single valuable thing. I have had teachers in my life for instance Madhuri Dixit [Nene] since childhood. Watching her perform and the way she carried herself gave me confidence, made me capable of dance, and then my mother, Mrs Nisha Chawla, she always taught me to be honest, clean hearted and to be very cautious about Karma. My teacher, Vidya Tikari, who taught me how to do my own makeup and encouraged me to be strong enough to make my own decision, is also my guru. They are the reasons why I have reached till here today. For me, I feel I am my own guru, because the things which I did in the past or the person which I was in the past always guide me, pulls me back from repeating my mistakes, and have shaped me into someone better. I have also learnt a lot from people I have worked with in the industry.
